For Immediate Release
Berkeley, CA—John Maier has agreed to replace Dennis Cusack as President of Tibet Justice Center. Mr. Cusack, who is stepping down from the position after 4 ˝ years, will continue to serve the organization as a Board member and director of a variety of Tibet Justice Center projects. Mr. Maier is no stranger to the Tibet freedom movement or to the organization, having served more than three years as the organization's first Executive Director in the early 1990's and subsequently as a long-time member of the Board. Professionally, Mr. Maier works on practical issues of self-determination and self-governance facing Amercian Indian tribes as a Senior Attorney at the Oakland office of California Indian Legal Services. He lives in Oakland with his wife, Lisa Tracy, a former Tibet Justice Center Board member, and two young boys, Luke and Zach. “I am delighted to be provided this opportunity,” says Mr. Maier. “I have no illusions of being able to replicate the remarkable work of Dennis Cusack, who managed to devote thousands of hours of his valuable time and energy to the position. Fortunately, Dennis is not going anywhere, and will continue to provide us with his considerable intelligence and insight. I intend to work with Dennis and the rest of our expanded Board, staff, and membership to improve Tibet Justice Center's visibility and operating capacity. My hope is that together we can continue to lay a foundation upon which the Tibetan people will someday soon be provided the opportunity to build a new house of democracy and freedom in Tibet.”
