JOHANNESBURG, Aug 27 (AFP) - Tibetan activists in Johannesburg for the Earth Summit staged a peaceful protest against Chinese rule Tuesday, with Buddhist monks holding banners and reciting traditional prayers for peace. "Tibet: the world's largest remaining colony," read one banner. The Dalai Lama, Tibet's god-king, lives in exile in India since fleeing his motherland in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule. Exiled Tibetans have been waging a decades-long movement for an end to what they call illegal Chinese occupation. A Tibetan activist said there had been no run-in with Chinese delegates. "Some Chinese NGO members came and took snaps. That's all."
